திரு துரையப்பா இளையதம்பி (துரை, இளையர், தம்பி) January 2, 1939 - June 11, 2026

துரை, இளையர் மற்றும் தம்பி என அன்புடன் அழைக்கப்பட்ட துரையப்பா இளையதம்பி அவர்கள், தனது 87ஆவது வயதில், 2026ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜூன் மாதம் 11ஆம் திகதி, கனடாவின் ஒன்ராறியோ மாகாணத்திலுள்ள ஓக்வில் நகரில் காலமானார்.

அன்னார் 1939ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜனவரி மாதம் 2ஆம் திகதி இலங்கையின் நல்லூரில் பிறந்தார். St. John Bosco ஆரம்பப் பாடசாலையிலும், யாழ்ப்பாணம் St. John’s கல்லூரியிலும் கல்வி பயின்ற பின்னர் கொழும்பிலுள்ள இலங்கைப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் Bachelor of Science பட்டத்தைப் பெற்றார். அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து, இங்கிலாந்திலுள்ள Institute of Electrical Engineers நிறுவனம் ஊடாக electrical engineering கல்வியை நிறைவு செய்தார்.

தம்பி அவர்கள் தமது தொழில்சார் வாழ்க்கையை ஆசிரியராக ஆரம்பித்து இரத்மலானை இந்துக் கல்லூரி, அலுத்கம கல்லூரி மற்றும் கொக்குவில் இந்துக் கல்லூரி ஆகிய பாடசாலைகளில் க.பொ.த. உயர்தரப் பௌதிகவியல் மற்றும் கணிதப் பாடங்களைக் கற்பித்தார்.

பின்னர் இலங்கை மின்சார சபையில் பொறியியலாளராக இணைந்து, இலங்கையின் முக்கிய மின்சக்தி மற்றும் உட்கட்டமைப்புத் திட்டங்களுக்குப் பங்களித்தார்.

அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து நைஜீரியாவிற்கு சென்ற அவர், வளர்ந்துவரும் பல சமூகங்களுக்குத் தேவையான மின்சார அமைப்புகளை வடிவமைத்தும் நிர்வகித்தும் பணியாற்றினார்.

கனடாவிற்குக் குடிபெயர்ந்த பின்னர், தம்பி அவர்கள் மீண்டும் கல்வித்துறைக்குத் திரும்பினார். மாணவர்களுக்குத் தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் பாடம் கற்பித்ததுடன், DeVry கல்வி நிறுவனத்திலும் ஆசிரியராகப் பணியாற்றினார். கணிதம், பௌதிகவியல் மற்றும் பொறியியல் துறைகளில் தனக்கிருந்த அறிவை மாணவர்களுடன் பகிர்ந்துகொண்ட அவர், 2014ஆம் ஆண்டு ஓய்வு பெறும் வரை தொடர்ந்து கற்பித்தார்.

அன்னார், காலஞ்சென்ற கே. துரையப்பா, காலஞ்சென்ற சின்னம்மா தம்பதிகளின் அன்பு மகனும்,

காலஞ்சென்ற ஸ்ரீஆனந்தகுமார், காலஞ்சென்ற பாஸ்கரகுமாரன் ஆகியோரின் அன்புச் சகோதரரும்,

தையல்நாயகி அவர்களின் அன்புக் கணவரும்,

உமா, உஷா ஆகியோரின் அன்புத் தந்தையும்,

ஜூட் மோகன் செபஸ்தியாம்பிள்ளை, லினேகர் பஞ்சசீலன் ஆகியோரின் அன்பு மாமனாரும்,

ஈதன் செபஸ்தியாம்பிள்ளை அவர்களின் அன்புத் தாத்தாவும் ஆவார்.

அன்னாரின் பிரிவால் துயருற்றிருக்கும் குடும்பத்தினர், நண்பர்கள், மாணவர்கள் மற்றும் அவரை அறியும் வாய்ப்பைப் பெற்ற அனைவரும் அவரை என்றும் அன்புடன் நினைவுகூருவார்கள்.

மலர்களுக்குப் பதிலாக, அமரர் துரையப்பா இளையதம்பி அவர்களின் நினைவாக Diabetes Canada அமைப்பிற்கு நன்கொடைகளை வழங்குமாறு குடும்பத்தினர் அன்புடன் கேட்டுக்கொள்கின்றனர்.

Thuraiappah Elyatamby, affectionately known to his family and friends as Thurai, Ilayar and Tamby, passed away on June 11, 2026, in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 87.

He was born on January 2, 1939, in Nallur, Sri Lanka. He studied at St. John Bosco Primary School and St. John’s College, Jaffna. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Ceylon in Colombo and later completed his studies in electrical engineering through the Institute of Electrical Engineers in the United Kingdom.

Tamby began his career as an educator, teaching Advanced Level Physics and Mathematics at Ratmalana Hindu College, Aluthgama College and Kokuvil Hindu College.

He later joined the Ceylon Electricity Board as an engineer and contributed to major electrical power and infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka.

He subsequently moved to Nigeria, where he designed and managed electrical systems that supported growing communities.

After immigrating to Canada, Tamby became an educator again. He provided private tutoring and taught at DeVry, sharing his knowledge of mathematics, physics and engineering with his students. He continued teaching until his retirement in 2014.

He was the beloved son of the late K. Thuraiappah and the late Sinnammah, and the beloved brother of the late SriAnanthakumar and the late Paskarakumaran.

He was the loving husband of Thyalnayaki; father of Uma and Usha; father-in-law of Jude Mohan Sebastiampillai and Lineker Panchaseelan; and grandfather of Ethan Sebastiampillai.

He will be deeply missed and remembered by his family, friends, students, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Diabetes Canada in memory of Thuraiappah Elyatamby.
